Hugues De Courson
Hughes de Courson was born in Paris in 1946. His passion is to marry classical European music with ethnic music from all around the world. His first band, Malicorne, toured around the world and sold over one million records in the seventies. The music of Malicorne was a mix of médiéval and renaissance music with traditional French folk music, using archaic instruments. He then wrote 22 pieces for contemporary ballet, using a mix between classical and ethnic instruments for Philippe Decouflé, Karine Saporta, François Raffinot, Montreal Dance, The san Francisco ballet, and many others. After these pieces, Hughes wrote 4 major Albums : Lambarena Bach to Africa, in which he transformed Johan Sebastian Bach into an African Pigmea, O’Stravaganza, where Vivaldi became a Celtic fiddler, and he transformed Mozart into an Arabic musician in Mozart in Egypt 1 and 2.
He also composed Songs of Innocence, an album sung by children around the wold. All these records , released by EMI Virgin Classics, became golden or platinum records, and Mozart in Egypt reched a million copies sold. His total discography is 88 records produced or composed. He also wrote a few film musics, among them the successful « Charlemagne, un Prince à cheval », and many musics for events like Mediterranean games (1993 FRANCE), Musée des Arts Premiers opening (FRANCE), Women in Science UNESCO L’Oreal (FRANCE) Gulf cup, Technology University opening, Rasgas event, Asian cup, Panarabic games, Museum of islamic arts grand opening (DOHA, QATAR) Jeddah Islamic Economic forum 2008 (SAUDI ARABIA), United nations forum event (BARHEIN), Diamond Island opening (HO CHI MIHN VIETNAM), and recently, the symphonic music for the presentation of the new Class S Mercedes car in Shanghai Arena (CHINA) in September2013.
Hughes de Courson is currently living in Malaysia, where he teaches and organizes lectures and musical events.
